Yolluk

Yol/Yolcu/Yolculuk, Izmir, 2017

Miné’s twenty-piece series of free hand sketches titled Yolluk, Travel Rations, took place in the exhibition Yol/Yolcu/Yolculuk, Track/Traveller/Travel. It was curated by Lale Dilbaş as the 2nd Group Exhibition of Faculty Members and Graduate Students of the Art and Design Faculty at Yaşar University, and held in K2, Contemporary Art Centre in Izmir (9-17 May, 2017).

“In my experiences, the creative process of a design act is a path or a journey for me. The process is that of a path of thinking, dreaming, and mindfulness, which contains questioning, searching, seeking, finding things that are sometimes undetected or unfound. Images, pictures, drawings, or any visuals of various objects nesting in my collective consciousness are companions that flash in my mind during my creative journey.” -Miné Ovacık

According to her creative experiences, Miné had another experiment for this exhibition. She focused on the playful wording of the exhibition theme: Yol/Yolcu/Yolculuk and responded playfully by adding a fourth one: Yolluk. After naming her work, she created an environment for herself where she could move into her creative mood and kept drawing scenes made up of objects. These could most possibly be travel rations, which projected as a visual storm in her mind while repeatedly saying the words “yol-yolcu-yolculuk” and “yolluk” stuck at a table for four hours. Basically, the words she uttered called for the scenes she created, which she reflected by drawing. It was as if the words that left her lips came to life in her mind and on paper.
